How Much Did LAFC Pay AC Milan to Bring Olivier Giroud to MLS? Transfer Fee, Contract Duration & Everything We Know So Far

Major League Soccer keeps its motor running by acquiring top talents. Olivier Giroud has become the latest European superstar to arrive in the United States. After parting ways with AC Milan, the French striker is set to join the ranks of Los Angeles FC. With a transfer finally in its final stages, many are eager to know the not-known details behind the deal, particularly the undisclosed transfer fee negotiated between both parties and the contract length.

As reported by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, LAFC will not be paying a single penny for Giroud to AC Milan. The 37-year-old will be signed as a free agent as his contract will expire in the upcoming June. Despite receiving tempting offers from both Saudi Arabia and Europe, the former Arsenal and Chelsea No. 9 decided to join the MLS side. The negotiations had spanned for several weeks with a verbal agreement already reached in March. Additionally, Giroud will be penning a deal with the Falcons until December 2025.

While it is reported that he met John Thorrington, the LAFC co-president, to sign the contract in Milan, the player will get to don the black and golden jersey after he ends his 2023–24 season with the Rossoneri. Interestingly, the 2018 World Cup winner will be joining his fellow national teammate, Hugo Lloris, at the BMO Stadium, after the former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper also arrived at the Southern California city in the winter transfer window as a free agent. While it would be quite an interesting reunion for Giroud, how much of the American dollar is he going to earn at his new club?

How much will Olivier Giroud earn at LAFC?

Comparing his current salary with AC Milan, Oliver Giroud would be required to take a bit of a pay cut at LAFC. As per ESPN, the French international will earn €3 million ($3.2 million) a year on the MLS side. Remarkably, numbers from Capology report that Giroud currently earns €4.5 million ($4.8 million) at San Siro Stadium. Clearly, it’s a bargain for LAFC, considering what the free agent would be bringing to the table.

Giroud notched decent numbers for Milan so far. Since joining them in 2021 from Chelsea, the former Montpellier star has bagged 47 goals and 20 assists in over 127 appearances. Yet, the forward failed to lift a single title with Stefano Pioli’s side. Nevertheless, Giroud must be dreaming of silverware in the US. The Frenchman’s presence will certainly give LAFC a major boost to compete for the MLS title.
