Saudi Arabia Preparing to Spoil MLS’ Ambitions of Acquiring FIFA World Cup Winner Olivier Giroud- Reports
Olivier Giroud is a player with the Midas touch. From the FIFA World Cup to the UCL, trophies have followed the Frenchman wherever he has played, and he even had a crucial role in helping AC Milan end their decade-long wait for a Serie A title. However, his contract with the Rossoneri ends in June 2024 and at 37, a departure seems likely. Hence, the question is what’s next for Frances’ all-time leading goalscorer? There were reports that MLS club LAFC and Saudi Arabian teams were keen. But, it seems Saudi Arabia has just upped their interest.
As per reports on X, an unnamed Saudi Club has improved upon their previous offer for the French striker. This comes after the previous story that Giroud prefers a move to the MLS over the Middle East. It is worth noting that Giroud had already rejected an approach from Saudi previously. However, nothing is confirmed yet and the coming weeks will be crucial in knowing the Frenchman’s decision. Regardless, Giroud’s possible exit hints that fellow striker Luka Jovic could be handed a new contract.

With 12 goals and 8 assists in the league, the Frenchman is the top scorer for AC Milan this season. He is on course to have his best-ever Serie A season. Hence, it doesn’t seem that Giroud’s potential exit is linked to sporting reasons. Previous reports stated that Giroud is actually in advanced talks with Los Angeles FC. As per Fabrizio Romano, besides LAFC, many MLS sides are interested in acquiring the services of the Frenchman. Furthermore, LAFC is the frontrunner and has even sent reportedly an official proposal to the veteran striker. Likewise, Giroud too prefers LAFC over others and his former teammate Hugo Lloris could be a key reason. Per reports, the French goalie is pushing to bring the prolific striker to his side.
Lloris joined Los Angeles FC in December 2023. He was no more a starter at his previous club Tottenham Hotspur, with the management preferring Guglielmo Vicario over him. However, the Frenchman found the MLS side quite impressive. He said, “When you add Giorgio and Gareth, and, because I’m French, Denis [Bouanga], it’s like, ‘Oh, this club is really interesting.’ And also they won very fast.”
