The match, which took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, marked the third encounter between the two pairs. Chia/Soh’s victory not only secured their spot in the next round but also gave them a 2-1 lead in their career head-to-head record.

In their previous encounter, He/Zhou defeated Chia/Soh 17-21, 10-21 in the quarter-finals of the Indonesian Masters in January.

Chia/Soh are scheduled to face winners between the Indonesian pair Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana or the Taiwanese duo Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin in the second round.

Meanwhile, Chia/Soh’s compatriots, World No. 22 Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun, also secured their spot in the second round after receiving a walkover in the first round due to the withdrawal of their German opponents, Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel.

However, the same fortune did not accompany the women’s doubles team of Vivian Hoo/Lim Chiew Sien, as they were defeated by the fourth-seeded Japanese pair, Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota, with a score of 12-21, 14-21 in a 41-minute match.
