Adopted Simone Biles Freaked out Gymnastics Team After Announcing Family’s Complicated Scenario: “Those Are My Grandparents”

Realizing that no parent is there to watch over her at 3 years old scarred Simone Biles initially. The fear of not getting adopted by the same home with her siblings always haunted the now-27-year-old. However, good days rolled in when Nellie and Ron Biles welcomed both Biles and her sister Adria. But this didn’t necessarily change the following scenarios in school or the workplace: The reason is that her reality is unusual.

Her birth mom, Shanon Biles, is also Nellie and Ron’s child, which makes the equation even more complicated. So, the 7x Olympic medalist kept from narrating her adoption story for a long time. But now, she doesn’t hesitate to shed light or share a laugh about her friends’ reactions when she first broke the news.

In the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 27-year-old made an appearance to give a sneak peek into her life, but she didn’t hesitate to elaborate on some points. Out of all, the first topic she talked about was her adoption and how her friends were in the dark for a long time. “Why is everyone freaking out? And so I was like, Well, you know my parents; those are my grandparents; my uncles; that’s what I call my brother now.” Biles may have questioned their reaction at first, but later she was at peace.

That day, the environment in the gymnasium was different. The practice halted, all of her friends surrounded her, and even the coaches lent their ears out of intrigue. They were like, You’re adopted. And I was just kind of like, Well yeah, aren’t you, where’d you come from?” she shared a snippet of the conversation. From her expression, it was clear that being an adopted child was typical for her. But that typically made her who she is today.

The people behind her journey from an adoptee to the GOAT

“Being adopted since I was six years old to now, it’s been a long road and journey, career-wise, and just like who Simone is instead of Simone Biles,” she said to Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper. Speaking of her parents, she said, “Their support means the world to me. They’ve never really missed a competition. They’ve supported everything that I’ve ever wanted to do.”
