Lightning & Thunder strike again in Round 10 of the NSL
22 April, 2024
Round 10 of the Netball Super League (NSL) took place this weekend, with the international Netball Family treated to an extremely close encounter between Loughborough Lightning and Saracens Mavericks, before they were also able to watch Severn Stars push league leaders Manchester Thunder.
Despite Lightning winning all four quarters of their match against Mavericks, the hosts never quite struck ahead to an uncatchable distance, as they won three of their quarters by just 1 goal.
Mavericks once again showed great signs of improvement, having tested London Pulse on Monday losing that game by just two goals.
England Rose Razia Quashie worked tirelessly to ensure that Lightning couldn’t pull ahead, making four gains, four deflections and one interception in the match.
However, as Lightning continued to hunt back to back NSL titles their Ugandan She Crane shooter, Mary Cholhok, showed her class shooting at 90% and ensuring that no opportunity was wasted for Lightning as they won 68-60.
Cholhok now has 487 goals to her name, 100 more than any other shooter in the league this season so far.
The closest bind her with 387 goals is South African SPAR Protea Sigrid Burger, who the international Netball Family were also able to see out on court this weekend as she shot for Stars against the current league leaders, Thunder.
Sigi scored a further 35 goals in this game, with her side just eight goals behind Thunder going into the final 15-minutes, having lost the 1st quarter by just one and gone on to draw the 3rd.
Thunder eventually won the final quarter by six, taking the win 61-46.

Elsewhere in the NSL, Surrey Storm just about managed to hold onto their lead against Cardiff Dragons, Strathclyde Sirens fell to the hands of Leeds Rhinos, and London Pulse dominated against Team Bath.
