Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin To Fight Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang For BAC Title
Ningbo: The Worl No. 19 men’s pair from Malaysia – Nur Izzuddin/Goh Sze Fei, will face off against the World No. 3 pair from China, Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang, in the final of the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) in Ningbo, China on Sunday.
This will be the second meeting for both pairs since the first-round clash at the 2023 Malaysia Open.
Highlights of Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin vs. Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik In the 2024 BAC Semi-Finals:
At that time, Izzuddin/Goh had to concede to their opponents in a three-set battle.
Therefore, Sunday’s final will be the perfect stage for Izzuddin/Goh to seek revenge against Liang/Wang who also holds the Malaysia Open title this year.
Earlier, Izzuddin/Goh advanced to their first-ever BAC final after overcoming the challenge of their teammates and the World No. 5 pair Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, 21-14, 21-18 in the semifinals.
Liang/Wang, on the other hand, advanced to the final after defeating the Taiwanese pair, Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan, 21-17, 21-17 in another semifinal match.
“It’s something positive to see Izzuddin-Sze Fei bounce back after losing to Aaron-Wooi Yik several times this year in the Malaysia Open and the All-England Open,” said Malaysia’s men’s doubles coach Tan Bin Shen.
“Now, they have managed to defeat Aaron-Wooi Yik once again. They have shown a high spirit to win on the court, right from the beginning of the tournament.”
“I hope they can maintain this spirit and perform well in the final,” explained Tan Bin Shen.
Goh/Izzuddin also ensured that Malaysia has a representative in the BAC men’s doubles final for three consecutive years, following Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik in 2022 and the pair of Teo Ee Yi/Ong Yew Sin in 2023.
As a record, the last time Malaysia became the men’s team champion in the BAC was through the pair of Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah in the 2007 edition, thus defending their title won a year before.
In men’s singles, Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie advanced to the final after defeating the top seed Shi Yu Qi on Saturday.
