SAN DIEGO – The 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship – the sport’s premier international men’s competition that will be held in San Diego this summer – proudly announced today that Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego has been named presenting sponsor of the upcoming event.
The 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship presented by Rady Children’s Hospital will feature 30 national teams from all five continental regions, and will take place June 21 to July 1. The San Diego 2023 Organizing Committee – chaired by Joe Tsai, owner of the National Lacrosse League’s San Diego Seals – is committed to bettering the community through health, wellness and athletics.
“Given our platform with this event to positively impact the lives of San Diegans, I could think of no better partner than Rady Children’s Hospital,” said Tsai. “Rady Children’s is a global leader in pediatric care and has placed significant emphasis on the physical, mental and emotional well-being of children here in our great city, across the U.S. and beyond.”
“This partnership represents a huge boost for our upcoming men’s world championship, which will be a great celebration of lacrosse in what is now a hotbed for the sport,” said World Lacrosse CEO Jim Scherr. “Thanks to the incredible support from Rady Children’s Hospital and the strong local organizing committee, our rapidly increasing popularity and global expansion will be on display as we enter the final stage of our bid for inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games.”
Rady Children’s is the largest children’s hospital on the U.S. West Coast, and ranked among the nation’s best children’s hospitals in 10 pediatric specialties, including No. 1 in the West in orthopedics and cardiology. While the hospital serves its primary communities of San Diego, Imperial and southern Riverside counties, its reputation has also attracted patients from Europe, the Middle East, Latin American and the Pacific Rim.
“At our core, we’re dedicated to bettering the lives of children and their families,” said Steve Jennings, Rady Children’s senior vice president & chief external affairs officer. “The national and global footprint of the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship, coupled with the incredible inspiration this event will have for the children we care for, made this an attractive partnership. We’re honored to present the world championship here in our hometown of San Diego.”
In the coming weeks, the San Diego 2023 Organizing Committee will announce several enrichment and fundraising programs that help support the hospital’s mission.
The 11-day event begins on Wednesday, June 21 at San Diego State University’s new state-of-the-art Snapdragon Stadium with the Opening Ceremony and first game between the United States and Canada. For championship information and a schedule of events, visit WorldLax2023.com.
